Paige Shaughnessy, PhD, CCC-SLP

Paige Shaughnessy, Ph.D. joined the faculty in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Loma Linda University in 1992. In addition to her administrative role as director of the graduate program, she supervises students in clinic, and teaches the graduate courses in adult language disorders, traumatic brain injury, motor speech disorders, and graduate portfolio. Until two years ago, she was also the clinical coordinator. In that role, she regularly interacted with clinical instructors and supervisors. She has spent more than a decade presenting seminars and workshops on clinical supervision. More recently, she became interested in generational differences in the classroom and workplace, and has incorporated what she has learned about this generation’s values and behaviors into her seminars on supervision. She is currently the director of CSHA District 10.

Course Description
This course will address expectations and realities related to supervising beginning speech-language pathologists. Key concepts related to differences between supervision and mentoring will be presented. The session will focus on  challenges related to supervising and mentoring the “new” generation of speech-language pathologists and solutions will be examined.  
 
 
Workshop Objectives                Level of Instruction: Intermediate
The conference attendees will be able to:
  1. Identify the roles of the SLP in effectively supervising and mentoring the “new” generation of professionals..
  2. Describe appropriate methods for clinical instruction and supervision.
  3. Compare critical values and behavioral differences between generations working and living together in educational and work settings.
